SBI customers complain of harassment

ITANAGAR, Sept 05: The people of Likabali town are facing harassment due to closing down of State Bank of India, Likabali branch for the last two days. According to the report majority of staffs of SBI who stays at Silapathar and Dhemaji town respectively have not turned up in the last two days owing to Dhemaji district bandh. As a result of it, bank and ATM has remained closed causing much discomfort to the customers.  State government employees are the worst sufferers as they are unable to withdraw salary. The local citizens have expressed dismay over the situation.

“This problem cropped up as most of SBI staffs are staying at Silapathar and Dhemaji town. These staffs are being paid house allowance and therefore they should shift base to Likabali. Rent houses are available in Likabali too. Bandh call in Dhemaji district is quite common and if they don’t shift base at the earliest such problem may again crop up in the future,” shared a local citizen. They have appealed to SBI regional manager, Itanagar to take note of the problems of Likabali citizens and address it at the earliest.

 

Unsung war hero laid to rest

ITANAGAR, Sept 05: Arunachal Pradesh lost her another son Kakung Osik, an unsung war hero who breathed his last after prolonged illness at Tigra village, near Pasighat in East Siang district yesterday. He was 76 years old and is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter.

He spent his youthful life  as a sentinel of the nation  under Assam Rifle. Rifleman in profession, he  fought against the Chinese army in 1962 Indo-China war and also participated in Bangladesh liberation war which was stated to be from 26th March to 16th December 1971. Born on April 30, 1937 at Komkar Village in Upper Siang  district, Kakung, son of late Opang Osik,   was appointed as a Rifleman on 30th April 1956 at Sadiya and retired on 8th October 1976 after  20 years, five months and nine days of dedicated service.

Kakung was awarded with Sanya Seva medal, medal with Clasp (Nefa), and Raksha medal for his tremendous service. His contribution for this land and the people of the country will remain forever in the heart of the people.

Army conducts awareness campaign

KHONSA, Sept 5: The 117 Infantry Brigade Station at Khonsa conducted a one-day awareness campaign in order to encourage the students and youths to join Indian Army at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Khonsa today. The 3 officers from Army including JCO who were the resource persons spoke at length about the Career in Indian Army. They said that Indian Army provides job security to all the youths of India including the North-East. They also said that the students of North-East India were physically fit and are talented by nature adding that the North-East youths are also very good in sports. They urged students to willingly join Indian Army not only to serve the families butalso serve the country.

Altogether 120 students from Class-XI and XII actively participated in the day-long programme. They appreciated the kind gesture of the Indian Army for conducting the Awareness Campaign. The students expressed that they were truly motivated and encouraged by the campaign programme. The school captain of Govt. H.S. School, Khonsa Rankhuan Tekwa on behalf of the students requested the Army authorities to conduct more such programme in near future also.

 

Golden jubilee Baane Solung deferred due to inclement weather

ROING, Sept 5:  The Golden Jubilee Baane Solung 2013 that is supposed to be begin from September 6 at Parbuk in Lower Dibang Valley District has been deferred w.e.f. September 18 to 21, 2013. Date of arrival on September 18 and Taku – Tabat on September 19, 2013 accordingly.

This is due to unavoidable circumstances as the surface road communication to the district headquarter of Lower Dibang Valley District has been disrupted by torrential rainfalls over the last few days. As the event aims to showcase the rich traditional culture of entire Adi Community of the state and many cultural troupes from other districts viz. East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang and Namsai and Dambuk Area are to be participated at Golden Jubilee Baane Solung Celebration at Parbuk could not reach due to the disruption of surface road communication to the district headquarter of Lower Dibang Valley District through Omorpur Ghat at Dibang River and through Alubari  Ghat at Lohit River.  It was informed that the water levels of Dibang River, Dotung River, Sissiri & Sine River at Dambuk and Deopani River at Roing have rised and flowing in danger level.  

The Organizing Committee further informed that this fixation of date for Golden Jubilee Baane Solung 2013 is final and supersede all earlier fixation of date as per the President ABK (Central). DIPRO

 

Free medical camp conducted

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: A free medical camp especially on chronic Hepatitis – B was organized  by a social activist Jeevan Taku in collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb India Pvt. Ltd and N.G Laboratory at Abo Tani Manch, Seppa  on September  1.

Altogether 666 were tested out of which 33 cases found  positive. The positive cases will be sent to Mumbai for further examination, the organizer said. The organizer also expressed gratitude to Dr Hage Tado, MO and Pacha Tallong H/A from District Hospital, Seppa for their participation and lauded the youths of Donyi Polo Nyedar Namlo Seppa for their cooperation to make the camp successful.

The organizer further urged the health department and  the state Govt as a whole to conduct free medical  camps regularly in interior places  for the  benefit of poor and needy people of the  district in particular and  state in general.

 

Donyi-Sanggo FC lift Solung Trophy

YINGKIONG, Sept 5: Donyi-Sanggo Football Club of Damro defeated Sun Football Club Yingkiong by 2-0 in a final match played on Sept 1 to win  the coveted  Solung Trophy 2013. Both goals were scored by Olik Takuk.

Advocate assault refuted

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: In a surprising turn to the reported assault of an advocate Mimar Basar on August 29 last at Tirbin, EAC cum JMFC, Tirbin, Otem Jamoh has disowned the incident and clarified that nothing of that sort happened.

Jamoh, in a signed letter, informed that the alleged assaulters were arrested on Sept 2 by OC PS Tirbin after a FIR was lodged by Basar on the same day.

After the accused was produced before the JFMC, he was later bailed out by Tirbin ZPM Bajap Jilen. The case is now pending in the court, he said.

Gumyum Jilen and Bai Jilen has nothing to do with the assault and said that the allegations were baseless.

I would like to appeal all, particular the people of Basar and Tirbin circle, that spreading of such kind of rumour may create misunderstanding among the peace loving people of Basar and Tirbin. Please do not believe in the allegations that have been leveled by advocate Mimar Basar. I would appeal all to maintain communal harmony, he further added.

Meanwhile, ZPM Tirbin Bajap Jilen also explained that nothing of the sort happened as reported.

He said, as per witness from the senior citizens, Bango secretary and first class Magistrate, no such incident happened. Only verbal arguments were exchanged.

While welcoming constitution of a fact finding committee for the incident, he also requested Karko Ao Welfare Society (KAWA) to constitute a fact finding committee to ascertain the incident.

 

‘Include Parsi-Parlo area in state tourist circuit’

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: The Parsi Parlo Area Youth Organization has requested for including Parsi Parlo in the state Tourist circuit.

In a letter submitted to the director, tourism, it said, Parsi-Parlo is a place of confluence of three rivers -- Kumey, (Kamla) Parsi and Parlo, located 48 kms away from Koloriang, inter-connected with all weather road. The area is bounded with lush green mountains. In winter, clouded mountain can also be seen. The area also has enigmatic natural beauty and is a place of photographers’ delight. Hence, Parsi-Parlo has all the potentiality to be promoted as a tourist destination, especially in the area of adventure sports such as trekking, rafting and angling.

The locals are ready to cooperate with the government in this regard and welcome the tourists in the area, it added.

 

CCTV installed

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: In order to maintain proper decorum in the office and to ensure proper attendance of the employees, CCTV camera and Bio-metric attendance have been installed at District Agriculture Office, Changlang.

The installations were done under the initiative of the DAO A D Panggam.

 

Month-long tour prog of state NSUI unit begins  

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: A team of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) state unit under the leadership of its president Kirbe Dulom has started a state-wide tour programme to visit all the government colleges affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, in order to interact with students and faculties of each college.

The month-long tour began with visits to Government College, Yachuli and Saint Claret College, Ziro in Lower Subansiri district yesterday. The visit was welcomed with remarkable response from the students as well as the teaching faculty. Dulom while highlighting the role of students in shaping the Nation called on the students to achieve overall success.

The team also felicitated the students who secured outstanding scores during their final examination this year.

The team has now proceeded to J N College and Doying Gumin College, both at Pasighat in East Siang district.

 

Awareness campaign for women

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: The National Institute of Technology, Yupia today organized an awareness campaign for women’s rights on the theme ‘Situation Control for Women’ with collaboration with the All Arunachal Pradesh Shotokan Karate-do Association (AAPSKA).

Experts from AAPSKA like Karateka P Nobon Jomoh and his team demonstrated techniques for girls/women to control problematic situation, particularly in their work place.

All the girl students and women staffs of the institute participated in the event.

This has been taken up as per government’s directive to ensure safety for women in the work place.

Assistant professor Yaka Bulo who coordinated the programme is planning to conduct such regular programme in the institute.

 

PPA flays Govt on job mela

ITANAGAR, Sept 5:  People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) today criticized state Govt for its recently organized job mela.

Describing the job mela as “misnomer mela,” the  PPA general secretary Dr Ashan Riddi in a release today said “till the last day of Mela, none have been given any job, what has actually happened was that only some aspirants have been placed for vocational training. This kind of placement for training is only first step toward the job market.”

The party further said ‘it is very doubtful if the government is very sincere in placement of the trained aspirants after training or just befooling the people. Instead of spending resources for development and facilitating skill development to the youths, the Congress government is wasting money by increasing expenditure on VIPs, VVIPs and appointing many appendix bodies Chairman and Vice-chairman.”

The PPA  said ‘If the Government is really sincere and committed for development, they should reduce the size of Parliamentary Secretary, Chairman, Vice- Chairman and numbers of vehicles and security personnel attached with the VIPs and VVIPs immediately.”

Teachers are cornerstones of our future: CM

ITANAGAR, Sept 05: ‘Teachers are the cornerstones of our future and act as foundation for creating responsible citizens and good human beings,’ said Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while addressing the function organized by the department of elementary education on the occasion of Teachers Day at Banquet Hall here today. ‘This day is celebrated to show our acknowledgment and recognition of the hard work put in by our teachers towards our development. Let us not fail them,’ the chief minister said while paying rich tribute to great philosopher, teacher and second president of India Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on  this auspicious occasion.

The  Chief Minister also extended his sincere greetings to teachers everywhere and salute the teachers of state for their dedicating service, especially in remote and rural areas and for shaping the future of Arunachal Pradesh. Accepting the hardships being faced by the teachers, especially those serving in interior areas where even basic amenities to live a life of dignity is unavailable, Tuki said, despite hardships like lack of basic facilities like accommodation and communication, teachers in remote Arunachal Pradesh have proved more than their mettle in educating and churning out intellectuals over the years. “Our teachers need more appreciation and recognition than their counterparts elsewhere. My government is committed to look into these issues, therefore, teachers, who have shown utter dedication towards their profession are getting honoured and rewarded on this day”, he said. “There is a general concern that our government schools are not functioning up to the mark. In far flung locations, teachers do not attend the classes regularly which is affecting the very status of the existence of government schools as students prefer private schools. This is very serious. Our state is paying the highest salary to SSA teachers in the country while we celebrate the day, let us also introspect and give our minds in correcting where we are failing. If a teacher fails in his duty, students will fail in their lives.”

Chief Minister had committed to provide accommodation to the teachers in interior places on top priority. Work in this regard is on. He has also committed to recognize and reward hard-working teachers and provide incentives for those working in remote locations therefore requested the Education Commissioner to come out with a detail incentive scheme within a fortnight to encourage teachers to work in hard and middle belts.

Tuki further said, managing school education cannot be left only to the Directorate of School Education. Hence he asked the district Deputy Commissioner to take charge of nurturing, monitoring, and supervising all the schools within the district. If schools function properly, the students will receive all the benefits like textbook, mid-day-meal, uniform, etc., the parents will be happy, the energy of the students will be channelized positively and the overall environment will become better. Therefore, he asked all the DCs to get all the schools inspected, problems identified and remedial measures taken within next two months. They must take appropriate action promptly against the defaulting officials and use all measures to make each school properly functional.

CM while concern about the Mid Day Meal tragedy in Bihar where many children fell prey to food poisoning due to carelessness of the authorities, asked all the teachers to ensure strict inspection of the mid-day meals before serving it to the children.

While congratulating the Department of Education for novel initiatives taken to streamline the education scenario of the state he said, the Education Department has started doing regular inspection of schools, which is a good step. The initiative of GUIDE scheme to encourage our officers to adopt and mentor a school of their choice is also a laudable effort. Mentoring a school is a benevolent task with far reaching implications as has been witnessed in some states of the country. It works on the belief that every educated and well-informed individual needs to attach himself/herself with the present day school system. As they say charity begins at home, the officers in the Department and in the Districts are expected to become the torchbearers of this strategy.

As education is a priority of every government, the CM said, “we have launched number of flagship schemes to develop the sector. In order to encourage girl child education, a new scheme Vidya has been launched. Under this scheme, every girl student of class-V in Government Schools will have a fixed deposit of Rs 5000 for continuing education. This amount will be made available to the girl student with interest after completion of Class-XII. We have allocated Rs 5 Crore for the scheme, which will benefit more than 10,000 girls in the current year.

To break the barrier and ensure attendance and hygiene of girl students of class VI-XII in Government Schools, sanitary napkins to about 82,000 girl students will be provided. For this a provision of Rs two Crore has been allocated.

Broadening the mandate of the CM talent award scheme for meritorious students, the Government will provide laptops to all those students who score more than 60% in class X examination from Government Schools. While last year only 1200 students benefited from a similar scheme, this year on about 5000 students will be benefited.

In order to recognize and encourage the exemplary services of our teachers, Chief Minister’s award for Excellence in quality education i.e. “Best Teachers Award” – Male and Female - has been instituted.  Rs one Crore has been allocated for this purpose. Also, in each district, one school will be selected for the ‘Best School Award’ with cash incentives, the CM further added.

Education Minister Bosiram Siram, while extending his best wishes to the teacher on the auspicious and paying his sincere tribute to Dr.  S. Radhakrishna appreciated the initiative taken by the State Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for his vision to lead the state towards lasting progress and meeting the challenges of education sector in the state and placing the education in his priority sector.

The Education Minister while congratulating the national and state awardee teachers  on the occasion said, it is the teacher who unfolds the worth of education and mysteries of knowledge for making them fruitful in life of everyone in the universe. Whatever anyone achieves in his/her life is only by dint of education. Hence, he urged the teaching fraternity to work hard to this noble cause to scale new heights in the state.

‘Education for all’ is the call of nation after advent of RTE, a dawn of new era for the entire country. Hence, if a single child of the state remained un-enrolled in the school, the objectives would not be attained. The girl child, underprivileged child, CWSN and other special categories need to feel respected. Need of the hour is not pity but love and care for which task lies in the hand of teachers to bring them in the mainstream, the Minister added.

The Education Minister further said, today education department is successfully addressing the targeted goals both in physical and financial front such as streamlining the defunct schools, training to untrained teachers, special focus on girl’s education; physically challenge issues, urban deprived groups, coverage of rural inhabitation etc.

In meeting all these challenges of education sector, he urged all the officers and officials to be dedicated towards commitment to provide fair and judicious educational administration to win love and admiration of the people. The future calls us to work with vigour and focus in order to till the scales of justice for our children.

On the occasion, beautiful dance and songs were performed by the school children.  Altogether  16 teachers  were conferred state teachers award -2013 for their dedicated works in the filed of education.

Education dept initiates action to check activities of private universities

ITANAGAR, Sept 05: Reacting to the news item published in this daily about floating of advertisement by various private universities of state seeking applications for admission into various courses, the office of director of higher and technical education today informed that on the basis of news report department of education had constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Joint Director, Higher Education in order to safeguard the future of aspiring students of the State and to avoid the scandals as referred to in the news item.

In a press release Dr Joram Begi, Director Higher & Technical Education Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh clarified that all the five Private Universities are in the stage of establishment and are not yet fully functional. The Department of Education is monitoring the activities of Private Universities through the powers vested by the Arunachal Pradesh College and other Institutions of Higher Education (Establishment & Regulations) Act, 2010. “It is learnt that two of the five Universities have floated advertisements from off campuses for admission in various courses or for establishment of Regional/ Study Centre outside the territorial jurisdiction of the State in violation of the UGC (Establishment and maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulations, 2003. This violation of norms has already been apprised to the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh to initiate appropriate action. The Private Universities have also been written to adhere to the UGC Regulations by the Directorate,” informed Dr Begi. Meanwhile, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has strongly criticized Congress Govt for commercialization of education system and urged the government not to temper with quality of education for their selfish motives.  “Till very recently, education institutions were the only institutions particularly certificate issuing institutions where the corruption of the Congress could not reach. However, their corruption have made inroad into the education institutions. In nexus with some unscrupulous corporate, they have established many private Universities and private open Private University in the State. Those corporate are coming to State not as voluntary organizations or for welfare service or genuinely aimed at giving quality education rather are coming to sell the certificate like CMJ University, Meghalaya,” stated PPA in a release.  PPA also added that present Chief Minister and Education Minister will be responsible for anything misdeed in future by those private universities operating in the state.

Party has appealed to the Governor to intervene and ensure that without full-fledged infrastructure and following the guidelines of Regulatory Authorities no private Universities in the State should start academic programme. PPA also cautioned the private universities not to try to take advantages of the simplicity of the people of state.

Meanwhile Dr. Jitumony Rajkonwar, Registrar of Indira Gandhi and Technological Sciences University, Ziro in a release claimed that Bachelor's Degrees in Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiology, Optometry and Physiotherapy the only courses being conducted at Ziro Campus fully developed by the University's Authorities besides the District Hospital facilities at Ziro with the permission of the State Government. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and other Master's Degree courses are proposed for the future and these will be launched after developing the full fledged campus in 375 acres of land owned by the University. Dr. Rajkonwar further added that arrangements have been made for seeking approvals from the Medical Council of India (MCI), Indian Nursing Council (INC), National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), Rehabilitation Council of India and Bar Council of India with a view to launching other programmes. In the mean time the University claimed that it has developed full fledged Library at Ziro with more than 15,500 books and other educational aids.

 

 

Rain plays havoc, river Siang flows above danger mark

PASIGHAT, Sept 05: Several pockets of Pasighat are battling with flood like situation due to weeklong torrential rains while the River Siang has already been crossed the danger mark (153.96). Situation turned worse with the reports of few areas being inundated by flood water like cremation ground, Sibokorong-Siang confluence, Komlighat, Raneghat and the entire low laying river bank areas. Situation in Mebo is equally unwanted and reported to be grim. The logged bridge at Kadang has been washed away while NH 52 road communication has been disrupted between Pasighat and Mebo, as the bridge approach of Siku has been damaged badly by the over flowing river water.

Taking serious note on the issue Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava had to postpone her scheduled Video-Conference by obtaining approval from the state’s Chief Secretary today. She convened an emergency meeting this morning which was attended by the SP Pushpendra Kumar, ZPC Kaling Dai, DDMO, DMO and EEs of PWD, PHED, Power (Elect) and WRD. She discussed about availability of relief materials and preparations. The DC asked the public residing adjacent to the river and in the low lying areas to be careful, alerted and closely monitor on every development. She cautioned all not to go for fearless boating or fishing etc. The DC informed that the authority is fully prepared and arrangement for temporary shelter is being made at the IGJ Auditorium. At the same time she instructed the officers of disaster management, Army of Rayang Division, police, medical, food and civil supply, water and sanitation and also road and transport departments to be prepared for any eventualities. Later the DC and SP along with ZPC Dai and a team of officers visited all the venerable places to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the SP Kumar informed that his department is fully prepared to extend complete supports and cooperation with men and machineries in the need of hour. DIPRO

 

 

MP trio ask PM to take steps to prevent Chinese incursion

ITANAGAR, Sept 05: Raising serious concern over repeated Chinese incursions into the Indian territory, the three Members of Parliament (MP) from Arunachal Pradesh today requested the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take steps to prevent such incidents.

Voicing their concern over China’s recent aggressive moves along the Indo-China boundary, including frequent cross-border incursions in the Arunachal sector, the three Members of Parliament, Ninong Ering, Takam Sanjoy and Mukut Mithi suggested three immediate steps to secure the 1,080-kilometer-long Arunachal border with Tibet to thwart transgressions by Beijing, which included Review of all ongoing surface connectivity projects along the Sino-Indian border, particularly in the Chaglagam sector, to ensure defence preparedness. They insisted that a deadline should be set for completion of these projects. Secondly, they suggested that the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) should constitute a committee to study the problems of villagers in border areas and suggest ways and means to provide basic amenities. This, they said, would stop the villagers from taking the painful decision to migrate from their traditional habitations.

Lastly, they suggested to ensure proper supply lines to the forward posts of defence forces as it is difficult for the state government to do the same because of a paucity of resources.

The suggestions from the lawmakers come in the wake of the Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) having repeated face-offs with the Indian Army in the last six months.

The latest infiltration by Chinese troops took place in the Chaglagam Sector of Arunachal Pradesh.

The three MPs said, “Arunachal Pradesh is in a disadvantageous position in relation to China as the Arunachal side of Himalayas is marked with high hills, deep gorges, and dense forests and is largely uninhabited contrary to the Tibet side, which is a plateau.”

They also said that the population of Arunachal is only 2.85 percent of the total North East population, whereas its area is 32.83 percent of the Northeastern region.

"Therefore, in order to secure our borders with China, the focus should be on the development of the border areas of the state," they said.

"While we share the developmental concerns and priorities of the rest of the nation, the requirements of the state which are unique on account of its strategic location, limited availability of resources and very low baseline of development need to be met through special treatment on priority for developing physical and social infrastructure in border areas," they added.

"Due to the absence of proper social and physical infrastructure, the population in remote border areas of the state have the obvious tendency to migrate to better developed lower reaches, leaving strategic locations unpopulated," they said.

Though the state government has taken steps with its limited resources to set up administrative centres and circles, the absence of proper physical and social infrastructure results in non-availability of basic amenities like drinking water, schools and public health centres, they added.

The absence of connectivity, they said, makes life in these areas intolerably difficult, and therefore, they emphasised the immediate need of development of all-weather roads to connect the habitations of small villages, particularly in areas prone to Chinese incursions.

They claimed that the incursions by Chinese troops have so far been taking place in the Tawang region in Western Arunachal.

They concluded by saying that the people of Arunachal Pradesh have a deep and abiding commitment to guard the nation's territorial integrity, but cautioned that this alone cannot stop the Chinese incursions.

 

 

Teachers’ Day celebrated throughout Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: Teachers’ Day was celebrated throughout Arunachal Pradesh with various programmes commemorating the birth day of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan  today.

The Teachers Day was celebrated at Rajiv Gandhi University with various  colourful programme under the aegis of  newly elected executive body of the RGUSU.  Vice Chancellor Prof Tamo Mibang paid homage to the portrait of Dr S Radhakrishnan on the occasion. This was followed by senior professors, heads of department, faculty members and students. Prof Mibang also addressed the gathering and explained the importance of  Teachers Day. Recitation of poem by Rebom Bello was one of the attractions of the programme.  A friendlyfootball  match was played between the faculty members and the executive members of RGUSU. The Faculty team won the match by 4-2  in a penalty shoot.

Teacher’s Day was also celebrated at Govt Secondary School, RGU Campus, Rono Hills with a fusion of vivid cultural dances, songs, dramas and speeches.

Speaking on the occasion, Headmaster Koj Tachang venerated the position of teachers and the role they play in building of the society and the Nation. He urged the teachers to emancipate their duties with religious zeal and not to stray away from their duties.

The National Institute of Technology, (NIT) Yupia  organized  essay competition on the topic “Teaching is a Noble Profession"   to mark the  celebration of Teachers Day today.  

Ongwat Wakhet-CSE won the 1st prize, while Anant Kumar Singh-CSE and Roshan Thomas-ECE  bagged the second prize jointly. Namrata Singh-EEE walked away with third prize.  

Addressing the students and the teachers on this auspicious day NIT Director Prof. C.T. Bhunia invited the young bright and scholastic students to opt for teaching and research by choice and not by chance. He opinioned that good teachers are costly but bad teachers cost more. He emphasized that indeed this is the time for the top ranking students to opt for teaching and research professions.

Prof. Bhunia categorically mentioned that higher teaching and education is of no value without effective research. He called upon the young faculty members to play the role models for the young generations in the profession of teaching and research.

On the occasion, the best teacher, the best employee and the best student awards for 2012-13 were given respectively to Dr. Nabakumar Pramanik, Taw Talo and V. Sai Varun.

 

 

RGGP gets  girls’ hostel on Teachers Day

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: On the eve of the Teachers’ Day celebration, Director of Higher and Technical Education Joram Begi has inaugurated a  60-bedded Girls’ Hostel of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic in a simple and impressive function here today.

Among others Dr. T. Padu, Jt. Director Higher & Technical Education, Taba Yall Nabam, Councilor of Ward No-05 and A K Tripathy, Principal Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic were present on the occasion.

In his inaugural address Dr. Begi emphasized the need of girls’ education and their role in the society. Yall and Dr. Padu advised the students to be hardworking and studious to achieve their goal in life.

The students, faculty and staff of RGGP also celebrated the Teachers day in a grand manner in presence of Dr Joram Begi, Dr. T.Padu, Taba Yall Nabam, college principal A K Tripathy, faculties and staff of the college. As a part of the celebration, games and sports were also organized by the students union of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic.

Speaking on the occasion, all the speakers including Dr Begi advised the students to focus on their studies and be good citizen. They also asked the students to be sincere, maintain discipline and peaceful environment in the institute.

Students Union general secretary Nabam Isaac Rickam in his address appealed to the students to respect and love their teachers for their dedicated service in man-making and nation building.

 

 

VKV organizes Yuva Sammelan at PTC

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: The VKV PTC Banaderdewa organized a Yuva Sammelan in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at Police Training Centre premises, Banderdewa on August 23.  Around 700 youths participated in the programme.  

While presiding over the programme Banderdewa DFO Tasso Sira, who is also Convener, Swami Vivekananda Sardha Shati Samaroh Ayojan Samit highlighted the significance of the message of Swami Vivekananda in this critical juncture.  

PTC Principal Take Ringu, while addressing the audience advised the youth to take inspiration from Swamiji’s life and move ahead to the path shown by the great soul of India.  

In her key note address to the youth, B. Radha Devi, Joint Secretary, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Arunachal Pradesh Trust said that Arunachal Pradesh is the land of rich natural resource. “It is our duty to use the land according to everybody’s need, not anybody’s greed.  Youth can play a pivotal role in this regard, she advised. Swami Vivekananda was the cultural ambassador to West.   Swami Vivekananda urged people to be inquisitive and at the same time earnest in their search, she said. Every youth should train their mind and body to cope up with every situation. Take Swamiji’s message as a mission to bring back the glorious past of India, she said.

 

 

NH-52 at Siku eroded; communication disrupted

PASIGHAT, Sept 05: Surging water of Siku river, which become tumult due to continuous rain in the upper reaches for the last one week today breached approach road of Siku RCC bridge at its right side, disrupted communication between Mebo town and Pasighat HQ. The erosion also snapped communication along Mebo-Dhlao road, which is posing scarcity threat of essential items towards the villagers of greater Mebo area.

It is observed the turbulent Siku river has been breaching right abutment of Siku RCC bridge every year during monsoon and disrupt road communication. The perennial stream, which collect plenty water at upper reaches, from the confluence of Siku and Sirum streams flowing down from Adi Pasi and Haohali, is also posing serious threat to the human habitations at its right bank.

The district administration, following a series of newspaper reports on the threat posed by the river, too up the matter with Border Roads Oragnization, initiated to canalize the water flow towards left side to control its erosion menace. But the late anti-diversion measure finally failed to control the river flow and it again breached the approach road at the same portion.

The local people are in apprehension of the fact that surging water of Siku river might enter the plain area on its right bank and sweep away Ayeng village.

On the other hand, rainwater has inundated several portions in and around Pasighat town, created immense trouble to the commuters. The second wave of monsoon active in the region causes heavy downpour at the hilly region and filled the rivers and streams to overflow. According to Water Resource department, Siang river is flowing above danger level at Pasighat portion

Heavy rainfall in Siang valley is causing massive landslide along Pasighat-Mariyang-Yingkiong road and plying vehicles along becomes very risky, informed construction agency sources.

Sources said that landslides made the road muddy and sleepy at Singer, Bodak village portions consequently operation of vehicles on the road becomes almost impossible. The companies have engaged their men and machines round the clock to clear the road, but it has not been cleared so far.  The company executives requested the commuters to avoid journey along the road for these days.

 

 

Kimin ICDS observes National Nutrition Week

ITANAGAR, Sept 5: The Kimin ICDS project in collaboration with the Bishnu Jyoti Kala Kendra, Song and Drama Division, Jamugurihat, Assam observed the National Nutrition Week 2013 with the theme ‘Food Security for Healthy Life’. Various programmes like recipe competition, disseminating awareness of the services provided by the department through songs and dramas were organized as a part of the celebration. ICDS staff of the project, adolescent girls, children and womenfolk of Kimin area took part in it.

Attending the programme as chief guest, Anchal Samiti Chairperson Takio Yanu lauded the ICDS project for organizing the programme and urged the organizers to organize more such awareness programme in the near future. She exhorted the participants to avail all the services provided by the department and also suggested the Anganwadi Workers to carry out their duties sincerely.

Medical officer Dr Tana Aruna Likha explained in detail about the importance of proper nutrition for leading healthy life. She also pointed out some common unhealthy practices which were hampering the health of the society.

CDPO J Taba talking about the impact of hunger and nutrition as a critical component to a healthy life, said, “Good nutrition, particularly during the first three years of a child’s life, is important for establishing good foundation for physical and mental health, academic achievement and economic productivity.

 

 

Karate pioneers, masters of Arunachal felicitated

ITANAGAR, Sept 05: Arunachal Karate Do Association (AKA) president Sensei Likha Tara and Technical Director Sensei S. Deven Sarma were felicitated by All Arunachal Pradesh Nihon Shotokan Karate Do Association (AAPNSKA) for their immeasurable and lifetime contributions in the development and promotion of Karate in Arunachal Pradesh on the occasion of Teacher’s Day celebration today. AKA vice president Sensei Tai Hipik and general secretary Sensei L Marik were also felicitated on the occasion for their tireless efforts in making and promoting karate as one of the most popular sports in the state.

Senior karate players P Nobin Jomoh and Tam (Tarh) Tapak, on behalf of AAPNSKA, presented the mementos, bouquets and gifts to AKA president Tara, technical director Sarma, vice president Hipik and general secretary Marik in a simple but impressive function organized at SAI SAG centre Naharlagun today. Senior journalist of The Arunachal Times M Doley was also felicitated on the occasion acknowledging his contributions in sports sector through regular reporting.

Speaking on the occasion, Tara expressed his happiness at being felicitated by AAPNSKA on the auspicious occasion.

While reminding the students of the dos and don’ts of teacher-student relations, Tara, also vice chairman of Sports Authority of Arunachal,  advised the budding players to always respect and obey their teachers and practice hard to excel in their chosen fields. He also advised them to refrain from using tobacco and tobacco products, alcohol etc.

He also informed the students about the employment opportunities in sports sector for meritorious sportspersons. He said that an athlete can earn decent living through sports.

Echoing Tara, Technical Director (AKA) Sensei Sarma said that teacher-student relationship is very important for children. While appreciating the initiative of AAPNSKA to felicitate him and his colleagues, Sarma asked the upcoming players to maintain strict discipline, practice hard and inculcate a spirit of healthy competition in them to improve performance.

Vice presidents (AKA) Hipik and Yarda Niki, general secretary Marik also spoke on the occasion and delivered few words of advises to the students. They asked them to respect their teachers and elders to achieve success in life.

Dances and songs performed by the students of SAI SAG centre enthralled the audience.

Enough of enough

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the letter by  N.Shaun and Ami Kipa regarding the rejected list of APPCCE (prelim) 2013. The  minimum qualification for appearing in the said exam is graduation, so all the candidate can read instruction of how to fill up the form which is issued along with the application form. Most importantly, one month time is given for the submission of form from date of issuing of application form. So in this one month; a candidate can re-check the application form thousand times before submitting it.

It has been pointed by some that even UPSC gives chance to rectify the mistake in application form. But we don’t think so. We remember that till 2004-05 we used to send UPSC form by post. Many of our’s friend’s application was rejected at that time because of not signing the application form, for not pasting the photo etc. Yes, now a day’s UPSC is accepting application online and yes of course in online application, one cannot commit mistake, it is because of specially designed software. In short, application sent by post or other then online gets no second chance for correction.

Then, many of our friends use to send two applications for the said exam as an extra precaution which shows that  they were really serious for the exam.

Rejected candidates are saying that they should not be rejected on minor issue such as not signing of application, photo,  attestation etc. If this is a minor thing, we do not understand why application form is issued for? What things are done in the application form?

It has been clearly mentioned in the advertisement regarding the minimum and maximum age requirement for the said exam. Then, why 364 under age and over age (Data according to N.SHAUN published in Arunachal times published on 3rd Sept. 2013) have applied for the said exam. And now they are saying they have spent lots of money and have been preparing for months, whereas they knew it very well, that their application will be rejected ultimately.

Our friend says that APPSC has history of finally accepting the application of rejected candidate. Because of this mistake of AAPSC, non-serous candidate are careless in filling up form for they know after making hue and cry and by putting pressure their application will be accepted. Hence if this trend is not stopped this time, every time in such exam rejected candidate will appear to create problem.

Through this daily we would like to inform to APPSC that if application of rejected candidates is accepted, then every time in coming exam also AAPSC will have to do the same thing in such case as there is no need of filling up the application form,  just submitting the name will be sufficient.

Our main point is that if those candidates had really been serious they should have been really careful while filling up the form. After all, rules and regulation is there, and those who do not care of this must be punished.

Before giving examination they are making such hue and cry, what they will do later on. Hence we appeal the entire selected candidate to come out openly and support the APPSC, because this is competition and filtration of candidates is part of competition.

Job mela is a good initiative

Dear Editor,

In pursuance of his wise and bold decision to create one lakh job avenue within the 12th five year plan, conducting a job-cum-skill development selection Mela at I G Park Chief Minister Nabam Tuki deserve admiration from all section of the people irrespective of their political affiliation. Job Mela, the first of its kind and noble initiative, by our CM Tuki is worthy of appreciation for ingenious initiative of holding a Job Mela right in our corridor when the youth especially the educated yet unemployed are clamoring against the unemployment menace. He has taken this decision on right time to tackle the unemployment menace which is likely to create social unrest and nuisance in near future. It is informed that as per national record, the ratio of govt. employee of Arunachal Pradesh is the second highest i.e. 57.88:1000 with the Sikkim on top. However, despite this, we have more than one lakh unemployed youths in the state and it is increasing day by day.

Geographically our state is the largest one in NE Region but only 25% of the land is habitable and suitable for cultivation. It is thinly populated  and that also is scattered in far flung areas. Furthermore, after completion of graduation today’s generation do not want to go back to their respective villages for doing physical work in the fields and thus, they are concentrating in the urban areas, particularly in the capital town seeking government job as well as in private sectors. Out of the thousands only few lucky candidates get absorbed, rest are in frustration for not getting  job anywhere. In view of this doomed to failure situation some youths are forced to indulge in criminal activities. Considering this ever increasing unemployment problem to enable them to live a noble life in their future, CM’s decision to create 1 lakh job within this current financial year is highly appreciable for far sighted and timely decision to solve this ever growing unemployment problem up to certain extend. Besides this, non-tribal people had already captured the small market.

The Job Mela which concluded recently offered a chance for the mushrooming unemployed youths to find a job of their likes and capabilities. It also opened their eyes and minds on various jobs in private sectors other than relying heavily on government jobs.

It is said that a journey of thousand miles begins with a single step; the CM’s initiative of Job Mela would surely pave him a way to create 1 lac job opportunity for the unemployed youth of the State.

I’m also of the firm belief that such Mela would assuage unemployment problems of our state to a large extent. At the same time, I’m hopeful that our respected Chief Minister would continue to carry on with such innovative ideas for sustainable development of our pristine State.

Wait is on

Dear Editor,

I am writing on behalf of PMEGP beneficiaries of Papum Pare District. PMEGP 2013 interview was held on 5th to 6th July, 2013 at DDI office, Yupia and next day on 7th July 2013 result was declared in reference of No.DIC/PP/PMEGP/140/2013-014, dated 7th July 2013. It has been almost two months but there has been no any intimation from the DDI, Office Yupia for further works and its procedures. It is hereby appealed to concern department to look unto this matter as we have been waiting patiently for the last two months.

Anti-trafficking mechanism needs more teeth

Laws and interventions aimed at reducing human trafficking by targeting commercial sex workers can, whatever their good intentions, actually endanger their health and result in human rights violations, experts say.

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), 58 percent of human trafficking cases are for sexual exploitation, a number that activists worry has led the public and policy-makers to conflate trafficking with sex work, to the detriment of effective responses.

Part of the problem, say activists, is that anti-trafficking programmes often take the form of “raid and rescue” missions - in which brothels or other locations identified by the authorities as potentially housing trafficking victims are forcefully entered.

These operations can invade privacy and reduce public health outreach efficacy by scattering networks of sex workers who, in some cases, had implemented successful sex worker-led health programming, according to UN Development Programme (UNDP) research from 2012 on sex work in Asia and the Pacific.

For some UN officials, the problem is not the efforts to end human trafficking per se, but the fact that anti-trafficking work is complicated and sometimes implemented imprecisely.
